Getting motivated
Question :- How many psychologists does it take to change a light bulb ?
Answer :- Only one... but the light bulb must want to change.
- Silly and obvious.. but you will need to get up and so SOMETHING if you want to
rid your self of a phobia.
If you want to change your life then YOU have to CHANGE your life.
Well you've got to this site - possibly out of interest, but probably because you
want to rid yourself of the balloon popping phobia and by now you should be getting
the idea that YOU have to do something about it if you are going to get anywhere
with it.
If you are following one of the balloon popping suggestions and you are trying to
de-sensitise yourself, then you should try to set yourself a target. If you are able
to, then you could consider doing it every day - this should help you de-sensitise
quite quickly, and enable you to monitor your progress easily.
IMPORTANT
Progress may seem to be slow - so take notes - put down when you started and keep
a log of the dates you pop balloons and what sizes you have blown them up to, then
you will be able to look back and monitor your progress.
Finding that you are improving is a good motivator - it means that it is working and
it gives you good reason to continue.
BUT... if you find that progress has come to a halt then it is time to think about
trying something else.
Keep in mind the situations where you will feel more at ease when you are more
comfortable with balloons around - kids parties, Christmastime - it might help to
write these situations down along with your notes that tell you how you are
doing.
